Wildcats Fall to (RV) Park to Begin Heart of America Play

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Marking the beginning of Heart of America play, the Baker volleyball team dropped a tough three-set match to (RV) Park on Saturday.

Aby Widhalm led the Wildcats with nine kills in the match, hitting .318, while Taryn Dial racked up a team-high 16 assists. Defensively, Reese Kehl had 19 digs and both Brie Reedy and Kohanihokuao Misipeka had four blocks.

Baker struggled to get things rolling in the first set, quickly falling behind 12-1. Baker would never get any momentum in the first set and would go behind 1-0 after dropping the set, 25-9.

Baker was able to score first in the second set, but then found themselves trailing 10-3. Baker was able to fight hard in the second set and get back into it, cutting the lead to three multiple times before a kill from Widhalm and an error by Park cut the lead to just one, 22-21. Park then scored the final three points to win set two, 25-21.

Baker trailed 6-4 in set three, but three straight points gave the Wildcats a 7-6 lead early in the set. Both teams then traded points until a run for Park gave the Pirates a 17-12 lead. Baker would cut that lead down to three but that is the closest they would get as Park won the set, 25-21 and won the match, 3-0.

Baker is now 4-2 on the season and 0-1 in Heart of America play. They will be back at home on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they host Kansas Wesleyan at 7 p.m., inside the Collins Center.
