Wildcats Rally with Two Second-Half Goals to Earn Non-Con Draw with Ottawa

BALDWIN CITY -The Baker women's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit on Friday night at Hartley Field, scoring twice in a five-minute span of the second half to secure a 2-2 draw with Ottawa.

The Braves struck quickly, taking a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute and doubling their advantage in the 19th to put the Wildcats in an early two-goal hole.

Baker came out strong after the break and quickly turned the tide with a pair of key scoring plays. In the 58th minute, Carys English scored on a rebound, cleaning up a ricocheted penalty kick originally taken by Stella Jameson.

Five minutes later, Jameson capitalized herself, finishing a pass from Emeil Bennett for her first goal of the season and the first assist of the year for Bennett. Jameson had nearly scored earlier on the penalty attempt that led to English's strike.

The Wildcats controlled the second half, outshooting Ottawa 7-0 after the break and 11-7 overall. Both sides finished with three corner kicks apiece.

The match turned chippy down the stretch, with four cards issued in the second half. Ottawa played down a player for the final stretch after receiving a second yellow card in the 61st minute, but Baker couldn't find the go-ahead tally despite the advantage.

English, a freshman from Buderim, Australia, notched her first career goal while making her third consecutive start to begin her BU tenure.

Baker now turns its attention to its first road match of the season, traveling to Hillsboro, Kan., to face Tabor on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 8 p.m.
