No. 13 Baker Shuts Out (RV) William Woods in 2-0 Road Win
FULTON, Mo. - Playing on the road for the first time this year, No. 13 Baker pitched its third shutout of the season and came away with a 2-0 victory at (RV) William Woods on Wednesday night in Fulton, Mo.
After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats struck quickly after halftime with a goal in the 48th minute before Mo Salas sealed the match with a goal in the final 10 minutes to give BU its first win of the conference season.
Baker outshot the Owls, 13-7 on the night, with eight of them coming in a faster-paced second half. BU earned three corner kicks in the first half, but WWU finished with a 5-4 advantage in set pieces.
In a quiet first half, the Wildcats had four shots land on target, with Javaughn Barrett tallying a couple of shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes and finishing the night with three shots overall.
It took just under three minutes for BU to break the scoreless deadlock in the second half as a cross from David Reid deflected off the leg of a WWU defender and into the back of the net to make it a 1-0 lead for the Wildcats.
Reid was rewarded for his efforts in a ferocious start to the second half, with the freshman forward from Jamaica peppering four shots in the first seven minutes, with his second one resulting in the goal.
Putting up eight shots as a team in the second half, the Baker attack tacked on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. Chafik El Idrissi sent an excellent deep cross that found Salas on a long run up the left side, and Salas chipped in his first goal of the season, sealing the 2-0 victory for BU.
Starting keeper Maxot Arystanov and the Wildcats defense recorded their third clean sheet of 2025, with Arystanov finishing with two saves. It was the fourth multi-goal outing for a BU offense that has scored two goals in three of its last four matches.
Baker improves to 3-2-1 on the year and will return home for a Heart matchup against (RV) Grand View on Saturday, Sept. 13. Kickoff from Hartley Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's soccer match.
