Wildcats Take Down William Woods on Homecoming Weekend, 68-14
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Winning their second straight game, the Baker football team picked up another Heart of America South Division win on Saturday, defeating William Woods, 68-14.
Baker racked up over 500 yards of offense with 325 coming through the air and 181 coming on the ground. Truman Juelsgaard was unstoppable at quarterback, connecting on 17 of his 19 passes for 277 yards and three touchdowns. William Dorsey also completed five passes and one touchdown. Baker's top receiver on the day was Adrion Seals who had six catches for 154 yards and three touchdowns.
On the ground, Chauncey Andrews and Jeremiah Adams each had nine carries, but Andrews led the team with 53 yards. Both Gabe Martin and Juelsgaard ran for two touchdowns each as Juelsgaard had five touchdowns on the day.
Defensively, Baker was led in tackles by Caden Donovan and Joshua Herrmann who each had seven tackles. Baker came away with four interceptions in the game with Cameron Porter, Zac Kramer, Herrmann and Donovan each having one.
After Baker intercepted the Owls on the first drive of the game, Baker needed just four plays as Juelsgaard got the scoring started with a six-yard run, making it 7-0.
After William Woods scored on their next drive to tie the game at seven, Baker went 75 yards on nine plays as Gabe Martin punched it in from three yards out to give Baker a 14-7 lead.
Just three plays later, Zac Kramer picked off a pass and returned it 22 yards to the endzone quickly stretching Baker's lead to 21-7. A couple of possessions later, Adrion Seals returned a punt 43 yards to the William Woods 33 yard-line and on the very next play caught a 33-yard touchdown from Juelsgaard to extend the lead to 28-7 with 8:11 left to go in the first half.
The Baker defense held the Owls to another punt and Juelsgaard found Seals once again for a touchdown, this time for 26 yards and Baker held a commanding 35-7 lead. Baker then got a safety on a play by Zach Schneider and the scoring wasn't done there as Juelsgaard connected with Seals for a 39-yard touchdown and Juelsgaard ran another one in to take a 51-7 lead into halftime.
Baker picked up right where they left off in the first half and added to their lead on their first drive as Gabe Martin scored from 14 yards out. With 7:17 left in the third quarter, Seth Simpson tacked on a field goal as Baker lead 61-14 with one quarter left to play.
Baker put together a strong 12-play, 75-yard drive, capped off by a 30-yard touchdown pass from William Dorsey to Colton Hawkinson as Baker took down William Woods, 68-14.
Baker's overall record moves to 2-3 on the year, but they sit at the top of the South Division with a 2-0 record in division. They will have the bye week next Saturday, then will be back at home on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they host MidAmerica Nazarene at 6 p.m., at Liston Stadium and Don Parker Field.
