Wildcats Cruise Past Avila, 33-10, in First Home Dual
BALDWIN CITY - Coming off a blowout win on the road at William Woods, No. 19 Baker women's wrestling rolled to a commanding 33-10 victory over (RV) Avila on Sunday afternoon in the Wildcats' first home dual of the 2025-26 season.
With three open classes from the Eagles, BU claimed eight of the 10 matches to earn its second straight dual win. Chloe Herrick (117), Kylee Slyter (124), Aileya Sath (131), Anna Patz (138), McKenna Haltom (145), Hailee Crosland (160), and Nevaeh Wardlow (180) all picked up their second wins of the week after leading Baker to a 35-6 victory over the Owls on Tuesday.
After Avila opened with a win in the 103-pound match, Kylie Robledo responded with a pin at 110 pounds and Herrick followed with one in the next bout to give BU a 10-5 lead. Slyter and Sath each tallied their wins by decision with Slyter winning, 8-2 and Sath battling to a 6-1 victory to stretch the lead to 16-6 at the midway point.
Avila forfeited the next three matches to seal the dual for BU, but Wardlow tacked on another pin in the 180-pound match after finally being rewarded with the takedown in the second round.
The lone ranked match of the dual came in the final bout at 207 pounds with Baker's Madeleine Stone, who ranks 14th nationally, going up against the NAIA's fourth-ranked wrestler in Haley Ward. Stone fought through the full six minutes, but fell on a 7-0 decision as the final score settled at 33-10 in BU's favor.
Baker continues its busy start to the new year by returning to the Collins Center for another home dual, hosting Missouri Baptist for a doubleheader night alongside the men's team on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The women's dual is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the men to follow.
