No. 15 Baker Falls to Fifth-Ranked Statesmen in Conference Opener

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Going up against a top-ranked team right off the bat, No. 15 Baker women's wrestling fell on the road at No. 5 William Penn, 33-9, on Wednesday night in the Wildcats' first conference dual of the season.

BU dropped the first two matches of the night before Kylie Robledo picked up a tech fall in the 124-pound match to put the Wildcats on the scoreboard at 10-4. Nevaeh Wardlow had the other win for BU after battling to a late pin at 180 pounds.

The Statesmen, who had a total of five ranked wrestlers competing in the dual, strung together five straight tech falls to run away with things. They return a core group from last year's squad that took fourth at the NAIA Championships, including three returning All-Americans who competed tonight.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats' wins came from two of their returning national qualifiers in Robledo and Wardlow. Robledo earned her third career trip and Wardlow was the lone newcomer for BU at last year's NAIA tournament.

Up next, Baker will head to the first of back-to-back competitions hosted by the Braves, competing at the Ottawa Open on Saturday, Nov. 8, starting at 9 a.m. in Ottawa, Kan.
