Robledo’s Title Highlights Wildcats’ Season Opener at Friends Tournament
PARK CITY, Kan. - Highlighted by a first-place finish from Kylie Robledo, Baker women's wrestling kicked off its 2025-26 season at the Falcon Open on Friday, where the Wildcats had four placement finishes between the two competitions.
Coming in ranked No. 11 nationally, Robledo won all three of her matches in the Open division of the 110-pound bracket, including a pin in the championship bout. The senior from El Paso, Texas, who was a national qualifier last year, started off her season with back-to-back tech falls before earning her second victory over a Central Methodist wrestler, defeating CMU's Yusneiry Agrazal for first-place honors.
Newcomers Chloe Herrick (124), Gabi Koppes (131) and Keera Lacock (138) all picked up a couple of wins in the Open division in their first tournament since joining the Wildcats. All three wrestlers won consecutive matches before eventually bowing out in the consolation semifinals of their respective brackets.
In the Freshman/Sophomore division, Baker had three Wildcats finish in the top four, including a pair of runner-up outings courtesy of Anna Patz and Lucia Henriquez. Patz won three straight matches at 138 pounds before falling in the title match, while Henriquez also won three bouts with two of them coming on pins. Aileya Sath went 4-2 and placed fourth in a competitive field at 131 pounds.
Johanna Carrasco was the other Wildcat to rack up four wins in Hartman Arena on Friday, going 4-2 at 180 pounds in the FR/SO division, missing out on placement by one match.
Friday's tournament served as the opening competition for a Baker squad that returns four of its five national qualifiers from last year with Jannell Avila, Jade Martin and Nevaeh Wardlow all returning alongside Robledo this year.
Overall, BU had nine wrestlers featured in the NAIA preseason rankings and the Wildcats were ranked No. 15 as a team in the NAIA's preseason poll.
Baker will compete in its first dual of the season, traveling to Oskaloosa, Iowa, for a conference battle against No. 5 William Penn on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m.
