Wildcats Resume Indoor Campaign with Coach Alsup Open
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Competing for the first time on the 2026 side of their season, the Baker men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the holiday cobwebs and competed at the Coach Alsup Open on Saturday.
With 25 total teams competing at the meet, hosted by Northwest Missouri State, the Wildcats were one of seven Heart of America Conference programs in action in Maryville. BU totaled seven top-10 finishes and had a handful of athletes improve on their season-opening marks from the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic.
Haylei Potter turned in a top-10 performance in the 400-meter dash, finishing just above a minute (1:00.95) to place ninth in the event. Her time also ranks ninth among the Heart this year, complementing her top-two conference mark in the pole vault (3.07m).
Trot Wood went 50.20 and finished ninth in the 400m, matching his 50-second pace from his first time competing at Northwest this season back in December. Kemaro Neil earned a runner-up finish in the 600-yard run, clocking a time of 1:13.63.
Cutter Meade ran a top-five time in the men's 1,000m (2:35.79) and finished right at the two-minute mark in the 800m (2:00.07), where he placed 22nd.
Natalie Kennedy paced the women's distance group by taking eighth in the 1,000m (3:17.34) and adding a 14th-place finish in the mile (5:42.82). Rylee Lansdown placed eighth in the 600-yard run in her first time competing this season.
Freshman Jace Woodard recorded an eighth-place mark in the men's triple jump after going 12.63 meters in his first attempt of the meet. In the women's triple jump, Hannah Jensen came in 13th with her best distance coming at 10.12 meters.
Saturday's meet marks the first of six straight weeks of competition for the Wildcats, culminating with the 2025-26 Heart Indoor Conference Championships on Feb. 20-21 in Maryville.
Up next, Baker will head to the NAIA/JUCO Challenge, hosted by Pittsburg State, on Saturday, Jan. 24, with the one-day meet slated to start at Noon in Pittsburg, Kan.
