Backstrom, Dines Sweep Heart Golfer of the Week Awards

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Izabelle Backstrom and Gavin Dines of the Baker golf team were each named Heart Golfer of the Week after the pair swept the individual titles at the Hesston Spring Shootout last week.

Backstrom came out on top of the women's field in Hesston, Kan., shooting a 234 for the tournament to claim her first collegiate individual championship. The freshman from Vasteras, Sweden posted back-to-back scores of 77 and 76 in her first two rounds, leading a BU women's squad that broke the program's 54-hole record with a combined score of 979.

Dines, a sophomore from Olathe, Kan., also delivered a record-breaking performance for the Wildcats last week, setting the individual 54-hole record with a score of 209 to top the 57-player leaderboard. He broke former Wildcat Mason Ahlberg's previous-best mark (215), which was set in 2019. Dines took first at the Heart Conference Preview in the fall.

After coming away with a couple of third-place finishes at the Park Spring Classic yesterday, the Wildcats will turn their attention to postseason action with the 2025 Heart of America Conference Championships, which will be held at The Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan.

The men's tournament will be played first with the event kicking off on Monday, April 12 and concluding on Tuesday, April 13. The women's conference championship will be held the following week on April 21-22.
