Wildcats Fall at Home vs. Graceland, 81-73

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Despite a 23-point performance from Gabby Rose and 19 points from Skye Pepp off the bench, the Wildcats fell just short to Graceland on Saturday, 81-73.

Along with Rose and Pepp in double figures, Corrine Cole also added 13 points, while also leading the Wildcats with seven rebounds.

With just over three minutes to play in the first quarter, a jumper by Rihanna Blanchard gave the Wildcats a 12-11 lead. Over the final three minutes, Baker would be outscored, 10-2 and went into the second quarter trailing 21-14.

Baker came back firing in the second quarter and eventually took a 26-25 lead on two free throws from Rose. After the Yellowjackets regained the lead on a three-pointer, Taniya Tease knocked down a three of her own at the buzzer as the Wildcats went into the locker room with a 29-28 lead.

Graceland was able to hold a small lead throughout the third quarter, and the game went to the fourth quarter with the Wildcats trailing by three, 46-43. With 7:19 left to play in the game, a layup from Gabby Rose gave Baker the lead one more time, but the Yellowjackets responded to regain the lead and would not give it up again. Baker would not be able to come back again, and Graceland went on to win the game, 81-73.

Baker is now 2-14 on the season and 1-9 in Heart of America play. They will be back in action on Monday, Jan. 19, when they travel to Overland Park, Kan., to take on Kansas Christian at 4:00 p.m.
