Baker Softball Season Comes to an End With 3-2 Loss to Northwestern
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Baker softball season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon after a tough loss to the Opening Round host, Northwestern, 3-2.
Brooke Vicory got the call to start the game in the circle for the Wildcats and pitched a phenomenal game, allowing just two hits and one earned run in her six innings of work. Offensively, Baker had seven hits with three of those coming from Savannah Bray who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
The scoring got going in the top of the third inning as Savannah Bray hit her seventh home run of the season to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Northwestern tied the game at one with a two-out double to right-center.
After an overturned call at first base and an error from the Wildcats, followed by a sac-bunt, the Red Raiders took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning. After a scoreless sixth inning from both sides, the Wildcats were down to their final three outs.
Erlandson started the inning with a walk and was ran for by Kaitlynn Hodges. After an error put runners at first and second with one out, Savannah Bray picked up her second RBI of the game to cut the lead to 3-2. Ava Greiner then stepped to the plate and roped a ball up the middle that was snagged by the second baseman who doubled off the runner at second to end the game. With the double play, Baker fell to Northwestern, 3-2.
Baker finishes the season with a record 31-19 after reaching the NAIA Opening Round for the third straight season.
