Wildcats Continue Outdoor Season at Mule Relays

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Hitting the midway point of the outdoor season, the Baker men's and women's track and field teams competed at Central Missouri's Mule Relays last week.

The Wildcats had a couple of top-10 finishes in the women's javelin with Julie Coffey earning runner-up honors and Miranda Kuntz rounding out the top-10. Coffey set a new career-best mark with a throw of 42.02 meters, which placed second, and Kuntz went 35.42 meters on her first throw of the day.

Ashby Graham marked season-high times in both the 200m and 400m, clocking a 26.02 and placing 18th in the 200m while going 1:00.46 and taking 11th in the 400m.

Haley Carter and Ellie Barnard finished in almost consecutive positions in the women's 5K with Carter running a 19:20.59 and placing fifth, while Barnard went 19:22.93 and took seventh.

Natalie Kennedy improved on her 1500m time from the ESU Spring Open and went 5:18.88 in the race in Warrensburg while finishing with a time of 2:30.09 in her first 800m race of the season.

Hannah Jensen turned in a pair of top-20 finishes in the horizontal jumps after coming in 15th in the triple jump (10.39m) and 19th in the long jump (5.12m).

On the men's side, Michael Knaussman claimed a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on a time of 10:00.05 while Trot Wood came in eighth in the 400m with a 50.43.

Caden Cohee clocked his fastest time of the season in the 400-meter hurdles, going 56.38 to take 17th in the race. Cutter Meade ran a top-20 time in the 1,500m, leading a pack of six BU runners with a 4:08.10 and finishing in 20th.

The BU men's 4x400-meter relay team ran a combined time of 3:26.58 and took ninth in the Wildcats' best time in the event this year.

Up next, Baker will travel to a competition hosted by fellow Heart team MidAmerica Nazarene with the Pioneer Classic getting underway on Friday, April 17, at Noon in Olathe, Kan. The meet will conclude on Saturday, April 18, with events starting at 11 a.m.
