Mishkin Named Baker Head Tennis Coach

BALDWIN CITY – After a thorough national search, Baker University Director of Athletics Susan Decker announced on Thursday the hiring of Jacob Mishkin as the next head men's and women's tennis coach for the Wildcats.

"I'm happy to announce Coach Mishkin as our new head coach for the men's and women's tennis programs," said Decker. "I know he will be a great fit within our department as he understands the mission of the university and is committed to growing both programs by recruiting student-athletes that are not only great tennis players, but who are also dedicated to the classroom and completing their degrees."

Mishkin most recently served as the head men's and women's tennis coach at Ottawa for two seasons and was named the KCAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year after he guided the Braves to a KCAC Championship for the first time in program history in 2021. He also led the men's team to a program-best finish in 2021 after they earned conference runner-up honors during the regular season.

While at OU, Mishkin recruited and coached three top-40 nationally ranked players, including a top-15 player and a top-16 doubles team in the NAIA in 2020. He coached the program's first-ever NAIA All-American in Claudio Quinones, who earned the honor after claiming the ITA Central-West Regional Singles Championship 2021.

Prior to Ottawa, Mishkin had stints as an assistant coach for two NCAA Division I programs, first as the assistant women's tennis coach at Kansas in 2016 before spending a couple of seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson as the full-time assistant coach for the men's and women's teams. During his time at KU, he coached a former No. 1 nationally ranked player in Anastasia Rychagova and the NCAA's top-ranked doubles team of Janet Koch and Nina Khmelnitckaia.

"I am very excited to officially join Baker and build both tennis programs with the dedication of our student-athletes, athletic staff, and faculty," expressed Mishkin. "I want to thank Susan Decker, Kyle Pattrick, Matt Hevel and the entire search committee for the opportunity to lead Baker Tennis and for welcoming me to Baldwin City."

Mishkin was a three-year NCAA Division I tennis player for St. Bonaventure University where he graduated with a bachelor of arts in journalism and mass communication. He earned the St. Bonaventure University Russell J. Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communications Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
