BALDWIN CITY - Coming off of Wednesday's road win, No. 13 Baker couldn't keep pace with a high-scoring (RV) Grand View attack on Saturday night, as the Wildcats were dealt a 4-0 setback by the Vikings at Hartley Field in BU's third conference match of the season.
The defeat marked Baker's largest margin of the season and just the second time the Wildcats have been shut out, as Grand View (6-0-1) continued its hot start to remain unbeaten on the year.
Grand View broke through in the 24th minute and quickly added tallies in the 39th and 41st to seize control before halftime. The Vikings made it 4-0 with another strike in the 60th minute.
Baker stayed aggressive despite the deficit, finishing with an 8-6 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, including four in the second half. Noah Conover led BU with three attempts.
The matchup continued a tough early slate for the Wildcats, with five of their seven opponents either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA poll. BU already owns notable wins this season with a 1-0 result over then-No. 16 Oklahoma City and a 2-0 road victory at (RV) William Woods earlier this week.
Baker heads out for its second road match of the season and will face another top-5 team with a conference showdown at No. 5 William Penn on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
