Baker Women’s Golf Claims Championship, Men Take Fourth at MVC Spring Invite

MARSHALL, Mo. – After the men's team took home a championship the week before, Baker women's golf secured the team title at the Missouri Valley Spring Invite, which was held at the Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall, Mo., on Monday and Tuesday.

The BU women shot a combined 979 to finish atop the six-team leaderboard, building a 31-stroke gap between them and runner-up William Penn (1010). Meanwhile, the Baker men totaled a score of 874 and came in fourth in a competitive men's field that featured 16 overall teams.

Kate Braden earned runner-up honors on the women's side after shooting 25-over for the tournament and finishing in the middle of a tight top three with only a one-stroke difference apiece between the three places. Braden's best outing came in Monday's second round, where she shot 5-over.

The other four Wildcat golfers - Izabelle Backstrom, Madison Zubeck, Regan Kauth and Brooklyn Bowman - joined Braden with strong performances in Marshall as BU boasted five of the top-nine finishes. Backstrom (+24) tied for fourth, Zubeck (+33) tied for sixth, while Kauth (+34) and Bowman (+36) placed in back-to-back spots in eighth and ninth, respectively.

For the Baker men, Melker Hogstrom marked the highest finish after shooting 2-under for the tournament and tying for sixth. Gavin Dines shot 4-under in his first round of the tournament before finishing 2-over, which tied him for 14th.

Ethan Tompkins (+5) and Drew Lisec (+7) each marked top-25 finishes, with Tompkins opening up with a 71 in his first round and tying for 19th, while Lisec had three consistent rounds to tie for 25th.

Closing out their 2026 regular seasons, both Baker teams will turn their attention to postseason action as conference tournaments begin next week. The 2026 Heart Men's Golf Championship will take place on April 27-28, followed by the Heart Women's Golf Championship on May 4-5. Both tournaments will be played at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo.
