Baker Men’s Golf Claims Team Title, Dines Tops Leaderboard at DWU Spring Invite
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Baker men's golf team captured the team championship at the DWU Spring Invite, hosted by Dakota Wesleyan, on Sunday and Monday, finishing first in the six-team field behind an individual title from Gavin Dines.
With the tournament being held at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell, S.D., the Wildcats finished at 13-over as a team, 13 strokes ahead of second-place Mount Marty (+26) and placed four golfers inside the top 14 of the final standings, including Dines' second championship of the spring.
BU opened the event with a 4-over team score in Monday's first round before adding an 8-over in the second round later in the day. Baker closed the tournament with a 1-over final round on Tuesday.
Dines led the field at 8-under for the tournament, finishing six strokes ahead of the runner-up at 2-under. He opened with a 3-under round Monday morning, followed with a 1-under in the second round and carded a 4-under final round Tuesday.
Melker Högström tied for eighth overall at 8-over for the event, highlighted by a 1-under round in Monday's opening round.
Drew Lisec placed 12th overall at 10-over, while Ethan Tompkins finished 14th at 12-over. Tompkins recorded one of Baker's lowest rounds of the tournament with a 3-under in his final round on Tuesday.
Up next, both Baker golf teams will be back in action next week, competing at the Missouri Valley Spring Invite on April 20-21 at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall, Mo.
