Baker Golf Posts Top-Five Finishes at 2025 Virginia McCoy Invite
PARKVILLE, Mo. – After a three-week break, the Baker golf teams picked back up with the fall season, competing at the 2025 Virginia McCoy Invite at The National Golf Club in Parkville, Mo. on Monday and Tuesday.
The Wildcats came away with a pair of top-five team finishes with the BU women shooting a 678 and placing third, while the men came in fifth in a competitive 11-team field on a score of 607.
Izabelle Backstrom (+26) led a women's squad that had all five golfers finish inside the top-20, with Backstrom shooting an 82 in her final round on Tuesday to place 11th in the tournament.
Brooklyn Bowman, Kate Braden, and Reagan Kauth each shot a 172 to create a three-way Wildcats tie at 14th. Kauth and Bowman both had their best rounds come on Monday when they shot 85, while Braden carded an 85 during Tuesday's finale. Madison Zubeck (+32) finished a couple of strokes back and placed 19th.
The Wildcats were led by another Swedish golfer on the men's side, with freshman Melker Hogstrom (+6) tying for sixth for his highest individual performance of the fall. The freshman from Luleå, Sweden, shot a 72 in his final round of 18 to give him back-to-back top-10 finishes.
Gavin Dines rounded out the top-10 at The National with a score of 149, while teammate Tyler Baumchen shot 154 and finished tied for 28th. Ethan Tompkins (+14) and Drew Lisec (+21) closed out the scoring for BU with Tompkins placing 33rd and Lisec following in 47th.
Baker will wrap up its 2025 fall campaign at next week's Heart Preview, which is set for Oct. 20-21 at Paradise Pointe in Smithville, Mo.
