Phillips, Waller Earn Inaugural NAIA All-American Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ahead of its third straight postseason trip, the Baker women's flag football team had two players - Kaley Phillips and Sanija Waller - named to the Inaugural NAIA Women's Flag Football All-America Teams.
Phillips (first team) and Waller (second team) each received the All-American honor after helping lead the Wildcats to a 14-3 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play. The BU duo were two of the 12 All-Americans to come from the KCAC, joining the six selections from Ottawa and four from Kansas Wesleyan.
A senior from West Palm Beach, Fla., Phillips has been a dynamic player for the Wildcats offense, leading the team in receiving with 48 receptions, 628 yards and six touchdowns, while also adding five touchdowns through the air and four on the ground. She rushed for 406 yards and had 62 return yards to give her 1,096 all-purpose yards for the year.
Waller, a junior from Tallahassee, Fla., was also a do-it-all weapon for BU, totaling 28 touchdowns with 13 rushing, eight passing and seven receiving. She threw for 603 yards and totaled over 450 yards in both rushing (465) and receiving (473).
Carrying a 14-3 overall record, the Wildcats are coming off their best finish at the conference tournament, reaching the KCAC Championship before falling to Ottawa in a hard-fought title match.
Baker earned one of the eight spots for the inaugural NAIA Women's Flag Football Invitational, which will be held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. As the No. 5 seed, BU will take on No. 4 Hope International in a first-round matchup on Thursday, May 7 at 7 a.m. (CT).
