Wildcats Take Down Yellowjackets, 40-0 in Home Finale

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Playing its third home game of the last five days, Baker flag football exploded for 33 points in the second half to easily take care of Graceland, 40-0 here Monday evening at Liston Stadium in BU's final home game of the 2025 regular season.

The Wildcats scored within the first few minutes of the game, but were then held scoreless for the rest of the first half before pouring on a 33-point second half to run away with the KCAC contest.

Mahagonay Simmons and Kaley Phillips each notched a couple of touchdown catches with Simmons busting out a couple of huge plays to finish with three catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Phillips had seven catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Tara Llorente racked up 283 yards through the air and totaled four touchdowns with two of them coming on long pass plays to Simmons.

The Wildcats found pay dirt quickly into their first possession of the game, using four plays to take a 7-0 lead with Courtney Krauser ending up on the end of a short pass from Llorente for the first points of the night.

After scoring with 8:49 left in the first quarter, the BU offense couldn't put together another scoring drive in the first half, while the defense came through with a couple of stops to keep the score at a 7-0 margin going into halftime.

Baker found its groove in the second half, though, scoring right out of the gates again with Llorente hitting Simmons on a big 59-yard bomb on the second play of the half.

Llorente and the Wildcats offense struck quickly on their next time with the ball with Llorente finding Phillips this time for an 11-yard touchdown to stretch BU's lead out to 19-0.

Destiny Martinez punched in Baker's third score of the third quarter with a short run near the goal line for her first touchdown of the season.

Phillips and Simmons both added their second touchdown passes in the fourth quarter with Llorente firing in a pass to Phillips crossing through the middle to make it a 33-point lead. Simmons then garnished the night after being on the receiving end of a lateral from Phillips to cap the scoring and seal a 40-0 victory for BU.

Moving to 9-6 overall on the year, the Wildcats closed the books on a 2025 home campaign that saw them go 5-2 inside Liston with wins in four of their last five home games.

With two games left in the regular season, Baker travels to Saint Mary on Wednesday, April 16 with kickoff set for 6 p.m. in Leavenworth, Kan.
