Wildcats Blow Out Threshers, 71-0 at Home

BALDWIN CITY - After dropping their first conference game of the season on Tuesday, the Baker women's flag football team responded with a 71-0 blowout over Bethel here Sunday afternoon to move to 4-1 in KCAC play.

The Wildcats put up 49 points in the first half with three of their scores coming on pick-sixes with Kenya Arias returning back-to-back interceptions for touchdowns early in the first quarter and Alana Romey picking off the first play of the second quarter and taking it all the way back.

BU tacked on three more touchdowns in the second half and capped the day with a safety at the end of the third quarter.

Tara Llorente completed all but one of her 12 passes and totaled 148 yards with three touchdowns. Jaylin Harris had three catches for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Faith Phillips also had three catches which went for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Llorente tallied the first touchdown of the game on a five-yard burst before Arias reeled off consecutive pick-sixes. Kaley Phillips caught a pass from Sanija Waller to make it a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

After Romey scored on the defensive end, Harris hauled in back-to-back touchdown passes from Llorente to push the lead out to 49-0.

In the second half, Mahogany Simmons finished off a long touchdown after initially catching a pass from Llorente and then lateralling it to a teammate, only to have the ball end up back in her hands near the goal line where she took it in the rest of the way.

F. Phillips caught her touchdown pass on a 17-yard strike from Llorente and K. Phillips recorded the final touchdown of the afternoon on a punt return.

Completing the strong defensive performance, Romey was able to pull the Bethel quarterback's flag in the end zone for a safety and seal a 71-0 victory for the Wildcats.

Baker will close out its three-game homestand with a midweek matchup against Saint Mary on Wednesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. in Liston Stadium.
