Baker Hall of Famer Mack Brown on Seahawks Staff for Super Bowl LX
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Former Baker quarterback and Hall of Famer Mack Brown will coach on football's biggest stage on Sunday, serving as an assistant coach for the Seattle Seahawks as the franchise prepares for Super Bowl LX.
Brown, who was hired by Seattle on Feb. 22, 2024, is in his second season as tight ends coach with the Seahawks after spending five seasons with the New York Jets. His path to the Super Bowl and the NFL coaching ranks began at Baker, where he became one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in program history.
As a four-year team captain, Brown earned first-team All-Heart honors in 2008 and was a three-time NAIA Academic All-American. He helped lead the Wildcats to their first NAIA playoff appearance in 15 years in 2008 and finished his career with 8,278 passing yards and 57 touchdowns, ranking second on Baker's all-time passing list.
Brown set 12 school records during his career, four of which still stand - passing yards in a game (433), completions in a game (36), career passing attempts (1,287), and career completions (768).
In recognition of his achievements as a Wildcat, Brown was inducted into the Baker Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021, going in alongside teammates Richie Bryant and Derek Doerfler.
Following his graduation from Baker in 2010, Brown worked out as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs before beginning his coaching career at William Jewell College. He later served as offensive coordinator at Lawrence High School, while earning his master's degree from Emporia State, then went on to coaching roles at Missouri, Missouri State, and eventually the New York Jets before arriving in Seattle.
During his first season with the Seahawks, Brown played a key role in the development of Seattle's tight ends unit, highlighted by rookie AJ Barner's emergence. Barner finished the season with 30 receptions for 245 yards and six starts, recording a catch in 13 consecutive games - the longest streak by a rookie tight end in franchise history.
Before joining the Seahawks, Brown spent five seasons with the Jets, working on both sides of the ball. After two seasons as a defensive assistant, he transitioned to the offensive staff in New York, where he worked extensively with wide receivers and tight ends.
Super Bowl LX will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m. (CT) at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
