Karn Earns Heart Defensive Player of the Week Honors

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker junior linebacker Canon Karn was named the Heart of America's Big Game Football Defensive Player of the Week, following his performance in the Wildcats' 40-7 victory over (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday.

Karn had himself a day on Saturday, recording a defensive touchdown, an interception, a fumble recovery and a game-high 14 tackles to lead a Wildcats defense that allowed seven or fewer points for the third time this season. Karn's fumble recovery in the end zone was a big momentum swing in the game and marked the straight game that Baker has scored a defensive touchdown.

With Saturday's pick, the junior from Holton, Kan. has a team-high three interceptions on the year to pace a BU team that has 12 total interceptions in 2023, which ranks ninth in the NAIA. His touchdown against the Pioneers gives the Baker defense a total of four defensive scores this year, which is tied for third-most in the NAIA. Karn also is the leading tackler on the team with 46 tackles and a sack this season.

Winners of three straight, Karn and the Wildcats head out for a road contest against Missouri Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 21 with kickoff set for 1 p.m. in St. Louis.
