Miguel Regalado Selected as the Next Head Football Coach at Baker University

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After a thorough national search, President Lynne Murray and Athletic Director Susan Decker announced on Tuesday afternoon that Baker University has selected Miguel Regalado as the next head coach for the Baker University football program.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome back coach Regalado and name him as the next head football coach at Baker University," Dr. Murray said. "Miguel has dedicated his life to football, and I feel that he has the ability to grow this program to new heights both on and off the field. Having spent so much time at Baker from 2008 to 2017, coach Regalado knows all about the Baker University tradition and what it will take to continue moving this program and this university forward."

Athletic Director Susan Decker also expressed her excitement in naming Regalado the new head football coach.

"I couldn't be more excited to bring coach Miguel Regalado back to the Baker family as our next head football coach," Decker said. "He played an integral role in the winning tradition of Baker football during his previous stint. His vision for the program and his history of excellence and leadership make him a perfect fit to lead this program back to national prominence. I'm looking forward to what he will bring to the football program and the entire Baker and Baldwin City community."

Coach Regalado returns to Baker University after spending the last five years at Clarke University where he started the football program. Over the last two seasons at Clarke, Regalado coached 16 all-conference players, eight each season.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank Dr. Murray, Athletic Director Susan Decker, the Board of Trustees and every friendly and familiar face that I saw during my interview for this opportunity," Regalado said. "I have always felt that Baker University is a special place that you either never leave or you leave and always come back to. Being the head football coach at Baker University is not just a job. It's the job!"

Before his time in Dubuque, Iowa, Regalado had been a member of the Baker football coaching staff since 2008 and served as the program's offensive coordinator from 2011 to 2017. During that time, he helped amass a record of 81-25 and three seasons with 10 or more wins.

Regalado helped Baker to three Heart of America Athletic Conference championships and five NAIA national playoff appearances, including an NAIA national runner-up finish in 2016. That season, Baker won a record 14 games and marked its first undefeated regular season in program history.

During his first stint at Baker, Regalado served as a position coach for three All-Americans and was a 2016 nominee for NAIA Coordinator of the Year, serving as the offensive coordinator for the 2016 NAIA National Player of the Year, quarterback Logan Brettell.

Regalado started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of South Dakota and then coached at Urbana University from 2004 to 2007.

Coach Regalado takes over the helm of a Baker football program that has reached the NAIA playoffs in six of the last eight seasons and had 14 student-athletes earn Heart of America All-Conference honors in 2022.

"We expect to win here and will win doing it the right way," Regalado said. "We will recruit young men that are serious about getting their degrees and love football. They will be better people for having been in our program. Our staff will show them all the special people and resources at Baker that will help them get their degree. We will help them reach their full potential in the weight room, on the field, in the classroom and in the Baldwin City community. I will make sure our kids are ready for life after football and college."
