Karlin Selected Heart Pitcher of the Week
BALDWIN CITY - Camden Karlin of the Baker baseball team was named Heart Baseball Pitcher of the Week, following his performance in the Wildcats' 4-0 victory over Graceland last week.
Karlin recorded his second straight scoreless outing after pitching all seven innings and striking out seven in Thursday's win over the Yellowjackets for his first shutout of the season. He also went 7-for-17 at the plate across his six games last week, finishing with five RBI, a double and a home run.
The senior from Lawrence, Kan., was named an NAIA Preseason All-American prior to the season and has started off his spring by leading the team with a .460 average (23-for-50), four home runs and 15 RBI through the first 16 games. On the mound, he is 3-0 in his four starts with 23 strikeouts, 22 innings pitched and one shutout recorded. It marks his second time winning one of the league's weekly awards after being named Heart Player of the Week back on February 24.
Karlin and the Wildcats will open up the Heart of America Conference season this upcoming weekend by playing on the road at Missouri Baptist with doubleheaders starting at 1 p.m. on both Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 in St. Louis.
